With the 24/25 academic year underway, let’s meet Harper Cymru’s new cohort of executives who will be stepping up to run the society for the year.
Each year we send out over a thousand trees to our readers, to help offset the paper used in printing the Agri Trader magazine, and give back to the community at the same time.

Since the academic year is over and the summer months are coming to an end, we’ve caught up with a some Harper Cymru students to find out what they’ve been doing over the last few months.
28-year-old Ifan Davies, Chair of Meirionydd Young Farmers, recently achieved an incredible feat: shearing 1063 ewes in a gruelling 17-hour marathon!

Caws Teifi Cheese is a family run artisan cheesemaking business located at Glynhynod, Bwlchygroes near Llandysul. Glynhynod or “Remarkable valley” is a 45-acre farm at the head of the Chwerchyr valley, which joins the river Teifi at Henllan.

After returning from 7 months farming in New Zealand some 20 years ago, Eilir shifted the farm’s focus to milk production on grazed grass.

Us students have arrived back at Harper Adams into our final term of this academic year. This is sometimes the scariest time of year for many students as many of us, like myself, are sitting exams at the end of this month.
Our goal with the CoedAgri scheme is to offset the paper we use in printing the 25,000 copies of AgriTrader we send out each month.
This month, we are in the small village of Eglwyswrw, north Pembrokeshire, meeting Sian from our advertiser, Brian Llewelyn a’i Ferched, a landmark petrol station and country stores at the foot of the Preseli Mountains.
Emma Thomas farms at Tycoch, Clynderwen, Pembrokeshire, alongside her father and other family members. As well as the farm she runs her own floristry business, Sheep Shed.

I like this time of year – the work of the winter starts to lessen as the heifers go out to grass. I use a rotational grazing system and they are moved to a fresh bit of grass every day.

Who are the people who make Agri Trader happen every month? It’s a small core team day-to-day – and here they are!

Over the coming months we’ll hear about life at Harper Adams University from some of the Welsh students studying there – some news about their studies and their socialising!
So just before Christmas, we headed to Mwnt, a secluded, sandy beach north of Cardigan…it was ‘brisk’ (remember that icy spell? Yes, it was then), but it was empty, and perfect for etching the Agri Trader logo in the sand.
Under our new CoedAgri scheme, Agri Trader now aims to offer 100 native trees each month to farmers, smallholders and other landowners who have an unproductive or unused area that could benefit from tree planting.
Selling a machine that makes a transformational change to a customer’s business always makes me happy, especially when the customer takes the time to call back and thank you for your help.
Meinir Howells is a familiar face for those in the farming industry in Wales. Together with husband Gary and their children Sioned and Dafydd, they run Shadog, a beef and sheep farm near Llandysul.
