HARPER CYMRU: Start of the Academic Year

Harper Adams Freshers
After a few weeks off during the summer, all students have returned to Harper Adams University. Some are starting on their first year, some on their second year, and some on their fourth year. At the start of the month all 2nd and 4th year Harper Cymru members came together to socialise at the local pub.

Ar ol cyfnod hir o haf mae nifer o’r myfyrwyr wedi dychwelyd yn nol i Harper Adams. Gyda rhai yn dechra ar eu blwyddyn cyntaf, rhai ar eu ail flwyddyn, a rhai ar eu blwyddyn olaf mae’n braf cael bod yn nôl efo’i gilydd. Ar ddechra’r mis daeth yr ail flwyddyn ar pedwerydd flwyddyn o Gymru at eu gilydd i gymdeithasu yn y dafarn leol.

Harper Cymru were invited to the freshers fair at Harper Adams on the last Saturday of September. The freshers fair is a chance for both new and returning students to learn about the clubs and societies available at Harper Adams. It also allows students to get to know the individuals who run the societies/clubs. We had a fantastic day getting to know new members of the Harper Cymru Family, and our first get-together with everyone was a huge success.

Cardiff Half Marathon

As you may all remember 11 individuals of our Harper Cymru members were running the Cardiff Half Marathon at the start of October. The charity that was chosen to raise funds for was The DPJ Foundation, and we are very proud to announce that we raised over £1,650 for this amazing charity.

Here are Martha Howatson and Ceiran Prynne’s experiences of running the Half Marathon.

My name is Martha Cernyw Howatson. I’m 19 years old and come from Llangernyw in North Wales. I took on the challenge to run the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for DPJ alongside 10 other members of Harper Cymru. The Half Marathon was an incredible experience, and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. The first 8 miles were easy, but by the 9th mile I started to feel the strain, but the atmosphere kept me going. All the hard work had paid off as I finished in 2 hours and 36 minutes.

Fy enw i yw Martha Cernyw Howatson. Dwi’n 19, ac yn dod o Langernyw, Gogledd Cymru. Roeddwn i yn un o’r 11 a wnaeth gymryd y sialens ymlaen, o redeg hanner marathon Caerdydd, er mwyn codi arian tuag at y DPJ. Ges i gymaint o hwyl yn rhedeg yr hanner marathon, roedd yr awyrgylch yn hollol anhygoel. Wnes I erioed feddwl y base’r awyrgylch yn gwenud rhywun ddal ati gymaint. Roedd yr 8 milltir cyntaf yn hawdd, ond pan wnes gyrraedd yr 9fed milltir roeddwn yn dechrae teimlo’r straen ond, parhau gyda’r rhedeg oedd raid, ac mi wnes i ei gwblhau mewn 2 awr a 36 munud. Roedd yna rhyddhad mawr ar ol croesi’r llinell derfyn gan bod y gwaith caled wedi talu ffwrdd.

Ceiran Prynne, 4th Year Harper Cymru member:

A dozen Harper Cymru members, both past and present, made the venture down to Cardiff to complete the 13.1 mile run. This was the first half marathon for a lot of members, but everyone showed up raring to go in their new sponsored Harper Cymru running shirts and vests. The atmosphere on Sunday morning was fantastic, the event was well put together and we were grateful that the weather held up.  The runners put in a fantastic effort of getting across the line, no doubt a lot of were motivated by the post run pints. The support of members who made the drive down from Newport made the run that little easier, as well as the jelly babies and isotonic drinks.  Big thanks go to those who have donated to our JustGiving page. We are pleased to have done this for an amazing charity that makes a real difference. The page is still live so check the Harper Cymru Instagram page and follow the link to get donating!
